All paintings are mixed media on panel, with encaustic, sumi ink and japanese papers. These paintings are inspired by the shape of the word, and the elemental attraction we have to marks.

     I start with layers of ink calligraphy on Japanese Chiri or Kozo paper . These are infused with encaustic medium and attached to wood panels. Thin layers of encaustic paint cover these papers, sometimes transparent, sometimes obscuring.   They are informed by Asian scrolls and graphitti covered walls. I often bolt two or three panels

together to achieve a scroll like format.
